What Sealgar does

"Who are you, aged man?" I said.
"And how is it you live?"
And his answer trickled through my head
Like water through a sieve.

Corporate websites: full of dynamic stock photos and buzzwords like best-of-breed. Even once you’ve ploughed through the talk of performant this and synergistic that, it’s often unclear what the company they front for actually does.

However, one word—plucked from the often-risible language of online marketing—does quite well at describing the Sealgar “pitch”: solutions. Sealgar aims to help you find solutions to your computing problems.

A problem shared is a problem halved, they say, and initial chats are always free and without obligation. The goal is always an honest discussion about whether Sealgar can help, before any discussion of what might actually be done.

And if nothing else, at least this site has a soothing video from the local beach (Tràigh a’ Bhac), which we hope will make your day a tiny bit better.

Case studies

So, having no reply to give
To what the old man said,
I cried, "Come, tell me how you live!"
And thumped him on the head.

The following case studies, looking at very different projects worked on in the last two years might be a more concrete way of describing what Sealgar can (perhaps) do for you.

Skills

I shook him well from side to side,
Until his face was blue;
"Come, tell me how you live," I cried
"And what it is you do!"

The nature of a small consultancy is such that (over the years) you generally build up a little knowledge of a wide range of topics. So while the list below of skills Sealgar has some experience of is all true, you should bear in mind that it is unlikely to be as in-depth as that of a specialist.

  • HTML, CSS and javascript
  • Sveltekit + Node.js
  • Java
  • SQL
  • Basic familiarity with scripting languages like Python, Bash and PHP.
  • Linux system administration
  • Managing AWS services (especially EC2)
  • Staff training (in Gaelic and English)

What about AI?

AI tools are advancing all the time, and can definitely help with all of the above. But (at least for now) it would be a brave person who blindly implemented whatever an LLM suggested, without some form of sanity-check. (This is especially true if your tech stack is slightly off-the-beaten track.)
